Should the air pump be switched off for periods of time
The air pump must be left running 24 hours a day 365
days a year. This is even more important at night than during the day.
Why is this a problem?
If the flow of water around the aquarium is reduced the filtration
will not be working properly.
The filter bacteria will not be getting enough oxygen to do their job.
This not only causes clouding in the water but also means that the water
can become polluted very quickly.
What should I do?
As there is a risk that the water has become polluted the aquarium
will benefit from a couple of partial water changes.
A water test will indicate how polluted the water has become and will
help to determine how many partial water changes should be done.
