My salt concentration is not right
Now you have your aquarium setup and working you should check the salt concentration when you complete your monthly maintenance (using the Hydrometer Supplied).
The Specific Gravity (Sg) is a measurement of salt levels in water. The salt packs supplied in the Marine Conversion Kit and Marine Service Kit are designed to make mixing as simple as possible and contains a specially formulated reef grade synthetic sea salt with every major, minor and trace element necessary for the health of your marine inhabitants.
When mixed with the correct volume of water at 24C/75F the Specific Gravity (or Sg) of the salt solution should be 1.024.
To test your establish aquarium, take a small sample of salt water from the aquarium in a beaker large enough to float the hydrometer (supplied in the Marine Conversion Kit), and take a reading from the hydrometer.
The Specific Gravity (Sg) should be changed gradually, so the inhabitants are not shocked by sudden alterations in the salt level. By completing a regular 25% water change the Sg will be gradually corrected. The newly mixed water should still have a Sg of 1.024.
