How often do I need to change the water in a Marine system?

Each month you should change 25% of the water in your aquarium with fresh saltwater. The Marine Service Kit contains a replacement filter cartridge and a packet of high quality Reef Salt which you should be mix with either tap water or RO water.

Some Aquarium stores may sell salted RO water if you want to purchase this salted RO water we would recommend you ask the aquarium store to use the salt included in your Marine Service Kit. The salt included in the Marine Service Kit has been carefully developed in Europe to the highest quality standards, some stores may use lower quality salt alternatives which may cause problems.

Never change more than 1/3 of the water in your aquarium when you have live inhabitants. Changing large amounts of water will alter the water pH and can adversely affect the health of your inhabitants. NEVER wash the ceramic media in tap water, this will kill all beneficial bacteria which have been developing.

As the Marine Filter cartridge has such powerful absorption characteristics it remove the unwanted materials from the water but should always be changed at the recommended intervals. Due to this absorption properties it can also provide a prime habitat for microorganisms to grow. Nonpathogenic microorganisms can be a nuisance and actually cloud the water and create odors. It is important, therefore, to change the marine filter cartridge on a regular basis.
