A new fish has been introduced now it is cloudy

The addition of a new fish may cause clouding whilst
the biological filter adjusts. This should clear within a few days.

If more than one fish has been introduced in the last four weeks,  or
a fish longer than 1.5“ (without tail) this will create more serious
problems.

Why is this a problem?

Fish must be introduced gradually. If fish are added too quickly the
filter will not be able to catch up with the amount of waste produced
by the fish, the waste

pollutes the water and the fish may die.

What should I do?

You will need to dilute the amount of pollutants in the water whilst
allowing the filter to catch up.

Do not be tempted to clean out the whole aquarium -
this will make things worse. Carry out a series of partial water changes
using an aquarium siphon to suck up waste from
the base of the aquarium. Use Stress Zyme to help replace the filter
bacteria that have been thrown away.

Severely limit feeding of the fish to minimise the amount of waste
in the aquarium.

The aquarium is likely to get much worse before it gets better but
it is important to let nature take it’s course. The length of time this
will take will largely depend on the amount of fish you have.

Water testing is the only way to tell when the filter has caught up
and good water quality has been achieved.

This is a difficult problem, please feel free to contact us to discuss
it in more detail.
